september has been a fab month for reading… the friend by dorothy koomson i loved this novel! i listened to the audiobook version, and i was gripped from the start. i didn’t see the twist at the end at all! for me, this is one of koomson’s best novels yet! 5 out of 5 the white princess by philippa gregory this is the fifth book in the plantagenet and tudor series. i am loving this series. the books are so well written, and draw you in completely. like her other books, i really enjoyed this novel and couldn’t put it down. this is a series well worth reading! 4 out of 5 everything, everything by nicola yoon this is teen fiction, and an easy read, but a book i really enjoyed! i read this in pretty much one sitting. it is teen romance, and teen angst, but with a fab twist! well worth reading! 4 out of 5 her last breath by tracy buchanan this is the first novel by tracy buchanan and it was a great thriller. i was hooked, and couldn’t work out the twist. what let the book down for me was the soft ending. all was revealed…and then life was all ok, which was a shame. 4 out of 5 one of us is lying by karen m. mcmanus this is one of the best books i have read this year! i could not put it down. what a fab thriller – i did not see the ending at all! this is a must read, it is so good! 5 out of 5 we were liars by e. lockhart this is another good thriller. when the truth was revealed i was surprised! this is an easy read, hard to put down, and a good novel! 4 out of 5 share on facebook share this: twitter facebook linkedin google pinterest tumblr email the little bookshop of promises by debbie macomber 13/08/2017 by katie · 0 comments tweet synopsis: somewhere between a car accident and a divorce, annie applegate stopped believing in happy endings. now, she just wants to disappear. and the tiny town of promise fits the bill. with its winding streets and melting-pot of residents, it’s the perfect place for annie to hide away and open the bookshop she always dreamed of owning. until her new-found peace and quiet is disturbed by lucas, a widower who rivals annie as the most cynical person in town. with his troubled past and precocious children, lucas is the last person she should be getting involved with. but when he asks for her help, annie comes to realise that, maybe, going it alone isn’t the solution after all… previously published as promise, texas i haven’t read a debbie macomber book in a while, and to be honest this was not one of my favourites. i was intrigued by the book, and wanted to know the outcome of the various storylines – which led me to finish the book, but this wasn’t a great read. i was looking for a quick and easy read having just finished citadel by kate mosse, and this book ticked that box. this is a fast read, easy text and not a challenging read. i thought there were too many characters and too many storylines. no character was explored in depth, and occasionally i forgot who was who! most of the individual stories were not believable, and all wrapped up conveniently. i think i have read so many chick lit books, and several books by macomber that i found this one very predictable. all of the above said; i did finish this book. it ticked the box for easy read, and it did keep me entertained. if you like a chick lit novel, a nice and light read, then this is for you! i am rating it 3 out of 5 share on facebook share this: twitter facebook linkedin google pinterest tumblr email 2016 reading #2: after you by jojo moyes 01/02/2016 by katie · 0 comments tweet title: after you author: jojo moyes published: 2015 genre: fiction rating: 2 out of 5 synopsis: how do you move on after losing the person you loved? how do you build a life worth living? louisa clark is no longer just an ordinary girl living an ordinary life. after the transformative six months spent with will traynor, she is struggling without him. when an extraordinary accident forces lou to return home to her family, she can’t help but feel she’s right back where she started. her body heals, but lou herself knows that she needs to be kick-started back to life. which is how she ends up in a church basement with the members of the moving on support group, who share insights, laughter, frustrations, and terrible cookies. they will also lead her to the strong, capable sam fielding—the paramedic, whose business is life and death, and the one man who might be able to understand her. then a figure from will’s past appears and hijacks all her plans, propelling her into a very different future. . . . for lou clark, life after will traynor means learning to fall in love again, with all the risks that brings. but here jojo moyes gives us two families, as real as our own, whose joys and sorrows will touch you deeply, and where both changes and surprises await. review: this book is the sequel to me before you , a novel which i loved. i was so excited to see that jojo moyes had released a follow up book. and then i read it… i did not enjoy this book. i found it completely unrealistic; with unhappy story lines and characters i didn’t really like. i just did not get into this book at all. we return to the life of lou; lou, who is depressed and mourning will. he is a haunting her, all the time; and in a moment of craziness – to make herself feel alive – she tries to walk along a ledge at the top of a several storey high block of flats drunk, and she falls. where will life take her next? she meets a lovely paramedic, she meets a member of will’s family she knew nothing about and spends all her time trying to help her, and her mum seems to have a midlife crisis. i think there was too much going on in the book. there were too many story lines, too many people suffering and having some major crisis. the story about her mum finally stepping out of her shell, of “finding herself” was too much for me. i didn’t care that she wasn’t shaving her legs. for me, it didn’t add anything to the story. and the story of sam, the lovely paramedic. would she really have been allowed to go in the ambulance with him? probably not. and would she have seen what she
